The Changing Face of Living With Lung Cancer

This week on The Group Room we'll talk about lung cancer from the perspective of change and hope. Lung cancer is representative of a cancer type where the impact of personalized medicine is so apparent. As our understanding of the molecular causes of lung cancer expands, so does our ability to translate this knowledge into clinical trials, treatment options, and new markers to predict which treatment will be the most effective. You'll also hear directly from patients who are living with lung cancer as they share their own stores - smokers and non-smokers alike, including those rare voices of young adults with lung cancer. Tune in and be a part of the discussion at 1-800- GRP-ROOM and visit our new show website at www.thegrouproom.tv.

Join host Selma R. Schimmel, CEO & Founder of Vital Options International, and special guests:

Jonathan W. Goldman, M.D.
Physician at Premiere Oncology in Santa Monica, CA., where Dr. Goldman is leading the thoracic malignancy division of an active phase I and II oncologic research program with more than 20 clinical trials in progress at any one time.

Allen Ross
Lung Cancer First Person - A Young Adult's Perspective. Allen is a married father of two children; the youngest is 16 months old. Diagnosed with lung cancer that had metastasized to his hip, bones, and brain, Allen underwent radiation, received chemotherapy and a targeted therapy, which he continues on as a maintenance treatment. Today, he is able to lift his son, participate in family activities, and play softball again with his team.

Del Oldfield
Lung Cancer First Person - A Clinical Trial Journey.  Del, a former smoker, was treated with four different chemotherapy regimens and a clinical trial.  His first scans showed almost 10% tumor growth, but he stuck with it and working creatively with his doctor, Del has had nearly a 50% reduction in his tumor, with no toxicity other than a rash.  His story provides an important viewpoint on the process and uncertainties of being on a clinical trial, as well as a lesson in hope and tenacity.
