Cancer is common in
pet animals and the incidence increases
with age. Cancer
accounts for almost half of the deaths of pets over 10 years of age. Dogs
are diagnosed with
cancer at roughly
the same frequency
as humans, while
cats get fewer cancers. Just
as in human cancer,
early
detection
is essential, so
knowing
the signs and
what to look for could
save your pet's life. Animals
with cancer receive
many of the same treatments that humans do. In fact, certain sarcomas in dogs
have influenced cancer treatment in humans. We're also
discovering research
about canine scent
detection of human cancers. Whether you have a pet
with cancer or not, tune in for this fascinating discussion coming up in The Group Room and call us at 1-800-GRP-ROOM or e-mail info@vitaloptions.org.

Everything Changes The Insider's Guide to Cancer in Your 20s and 30s by Kairol Rosenthal
On a shoe-string budget and with tape recorder in hand, Kairol Rosenthal emerged from treatment and hit the road in search of other
twenty- and thirty-something cancer survivors. From the Big Apple to
the Bible Belt, she dusts the sugar coating off of the young adult
cancer experience, exposing the gritty and compelling stories of
twenty-five complete strangers.
The men and women in Everything Changes confess their most
vulnerable moments, revealing cancer experiences they never told anyone
else - what they thought about at night before going to bed, what they
wish they could tell their lovers but were too afraid to. With
irreverent flare and practical wisdom, Everything Changes includes
stories, how-to resources, and expert advice on must-know issues.
Everything Changes is available at Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Borders, and wherever books are sold.
